Common Eye Diseases We Diagnose & Manage
Through modern diagnostic tools and a combined wealth of experience among our team members, we’re able to efficiently manage a wide range of common eye diseases.
Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases characterized by damage to the optic nerve, often caused by elevated intraocular pressure. It is a leading cause of irreversible vision loss and blindness. Regular eye exams are essential to detect glaucoma early, as symptoms may not manifest until the disease is advanced.
AMD is a degenerative eye disease affecting the macula, the central part of the retina responsible for sharp vision. It can result in blurred or distorted central vision, making activities like reading and driving challenging. Early diagnosis and timely treatment are vital to slow down the progression of AMD and preserve vision.
If you are at risk of developing AMD, we can discuss preventative strategies that can reduce your risk of developing this condition. We only have two eyeballs. Many of these preventative strategies can be started early in a child’s life!
Cataracts are the clouding of the eye’s natural lens, causing blurry vision, glare, and difficulty with night vision. While cataracts are common with age, they can often be successfully treated with surgery. Our team can assess cataract severity and recommend appropriate intervention to help restore clear vision.
Diabetes can lead to several eye complications, including diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular edema. Diabetic retinopathy damages blood vessels in the retina, potentially causing vision loss. Specialized diabetic eye exams are crucial to detect and manage these conditions early.
Early Diagnosis & Management
The key to successfully managing eye diseases lies in early diagnosis. Regular comprehensive eye exams are essential, even if you have no noticeable symptoms. During these exams, our experienced optometrists can assess various aspects of your eye health, including intraocular pressure, retinal health, and visual acuity.
We do use optomap and retina photos to document the health of your retinas at each complete exam. These images are useful in helping us know if your eyes are staying healthy as you age.
If an eye disease is detected, our team can develop a personalized management plan tailored to your specific needs. Depending on the condition’s severity, treatment options may include prescription medications, eye drops, lifestyle modifications, or even surgical interventions.
