Tonometry, Pachymetry, Computerized Visual Field Testing, Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) and Fundus Lens Exams for Glaucoma
When it comes to your eye health, accurate glaucoma diagnosis is of paramount importance. Glaucoma is diagnosed when there has been damage to your optic nerve. This is often associated with high pressure in your eye. Glaucoma leads to losses in your peripheral vision and can cause blindness. Pachymetry measure the thickness of your cornea. A thin cornea is associated with increased risk for developing glaucoma. OCT is an instrument that uses a laser to measure for any damage or changes to your optic nerve or macula. A computerized visual field test can detect early defects in your peripheral vision which are associated with glaucoma damage. The optometrist looks at the health of your optic nerve with a fundus lens. This allows the optometrist to evaluate the appearance of your optic nerve in 3D.
Optomap & OCT for Diabetic Eye Exams
For patients with diabetes, regular eye exams are essential to monitor ocular health. At Vision For Life Eyecare, we offer modern technologies that play a pivotal role in a patient’s diabetic eye exam.
Our complete eye exams include optomap retinal scans, a noninvasive imaging technology that provides a panoramic view of up to 80% of your retina. This level of coverage allows our doctors to identify potential issues or diseases, such as diabetic retinopathy (one of our country’s leading causes of blindness), even before noticeable symptoms emerge.
The procedure is quick and may eliminates the need for pupil dilation, making it suitable for patients of all ages.
The Zeiss Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is a technology that captures three-dimensional images of your retina and optic nerve. This high-definition imaging dives deep into the layers of your retina, aiding in the diagnosis and management of conditions like glaucoma, diabetes-related eye complications, and macular degeneration.
If you’re experiencing vision loss or have diabetic concerns, the Zeiss Cirrus HD OCT can potentially unveil the underlying causes, facilitating precise treatment plans.
Assessment Technologies of Today
Building upon our commitment to modern eye care, let’s delve into some of the other technologies we offer.
Beyond visual clarity, assessing peripheral vision is vital for daily functioning. The SITA Humphrey Field Analyzer helps us measure and evaluate your peripheral or side vision, which is crucial for tasks like driving and avoiding obstacles. It’s instrumental in detecting conditions such as glaucoma, retinal dystrophies, and even certain brain diseases like stroke.
If you’re living with glaucoma, our Zeiss Forum is a powerful analysis program that combines Zeiss OCT glaucoma images with Zeiss SITA visual fields. This integration provides a report that enables our optometrists to assess glaucoma-related nerve damage. By merging multiple data sources, we can enhance our ability to manage and mitigate the effects of glaucoma.
The Heidelberg HRT 3 is an instrument that offers a detailed image of the eye’s structures. It aids in diagnosing potential abnormalities by capturing these images and offering more in-depth analysis.
Canon Fundus Cameras capture high-quality images of the eye’s fundus (the back portion of the eye). These images can assist in the detection and assessment of various eye conditions and abnormalities.
